Welcome to the Woolwich Netball ClubWoolwich Netball Club was established by Marist Sisters College Woolwich (MSCW) many years ago and was handed over to a group of hard working mums who wanted their daughters to continue playing with their school friends.
Although the club no longer has direct ties with MSCW, a vast majority of our members currently attend or previously attended the school. Over the years the club has expanded to one of the largest in the ERNA Competition. We currently have 17 teams competing in the ERNA winter competition. Players do not have to attend MSCW to play, we are a community based club and welcome all new players. The club is one of the largest in the ERNA competition with 17-25 teams participating in each competition. Woolwich Netball Club also runs the largest umpire development program in our association with 25 umpires representing our club in the last competition. If you are interested in joining a team, please contact [email protected]. Woolwich Netball Club is committed to being a Child Safe Organisation and as such have appointed Andrea Coffin as a Member Protection Officer. She can be contacted at [email protected]. All members and volunteers are to abide by our codes of practice which are aligned with Netball NSW. |
End of Year Wrap Up
Well, it's a wrap!
Although the first half of the season tried all our patience with the rain that seemed to pour over Meadowbank netball courts and only on Saturdays - the second part of the season saw more sunshine and netball! Woolwich ended a very successful season with 8 teams out of 18 in the finals series and 5 teams placing first.
Additionally, we worked hard to get our club to its first Annual General Meeting, fulfilling the obligations of being an Incorporated Association.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Woolwich Netball Club Committee who have worked tirelessly prior to and during the season to have 176 Woolwich Club Members play each week. Although we know that most of our members are not very interested in governance or club administration - without the efforts of the committee there would be no club.
I would like to thank the outgoing committee members - Andrea Coffin (Kit Convenor and Child Protection Officer) for all her hard work over the last two years. Andrea has been replaced by Jo Doornbos. Welcome back Jo!
You also may be aware that Pia Jenkins our Secretary will retire at the end of the Spring Competition. Pia has demonstrated such dedication to Woolwich Netball Club. She has been available for each member and manager enquiry for the last 2 years, organising volunteers to keep the canteen, bbq and umpire tables manned as well as assisting me to keep on top of the correspondence and communication. Please join me in thanking her for her efforts.
We have been asking for a volunteer or a job share to replace Pia over the last three months as the committee cannot continue into 2025 without a secretary. As we have had no takers the committee has decided to change the position to a paid position. This was discussed at the AGM on 5 September 2024.
Please be advised of the following:
Woolwich Netball Club NSW Incorporated will implement a minimum of 3 hour per week paid Secretary role for the 2025 season. Additional hours will be deemed necessary by the committee depending on the time of year (pre season, during season and postseason) but will not exceed 5 hours. This position will begin in February 2025. Payment will occur on a fortnightly basis with time sheets to be submitted to the president of Woolwich Netball Club for approval. Applications for this position will be considered from November 2024.
This position would suit a mature adult with administration skills that has flexibility to work hours during the week. Please click on the link to view the job description.
If you would like any additional information, please contact Pia Jenkins via email [email protected]
I will be on leave from all things Woolwich for the rest of September and October and will be back on deck in November. In the meantime, I will leave you in the very capable hands of Pia and the rest of the committee.
Kind regards
Libby Klingberg
Woolwich Club President
